This course is broken into ten lessons designed to teach students brain science in a clear & understandable way. The lessons here will help you understand how to build resilience & foster mental health in yourself and the people you care about.
Using a jungle metaphor, you will learn about how the brain develops from infancy to adulthood. Learn how brain pathways develop, how pruning and paving help build efficiency, and how our brain uses neurochemicals to drive behavior.
The Four Rs: Resilience, Relationships, Regulation & Reward
To become successful, independent, emotionally healthy adults, you need to develop a healthy understanding of resilience, relationships, regulation, and rewards during adolescence. We'll provide an overview of each and why they are important.
The Four S of Resilience: Self, Situation, Supports & Strategies
You will learn how you can build resilience by using a framework for the brain pathways that are developing around self, situation, supports, and strategies.
The Four Characters of the Brain: Our Brain’s Response to Challenge
This lesson introduces characters that represent parts of the brain that are responsible for our natural response to a challenge.
The Tools for Mental Health
We will go into more depth explaining some simple tools that you possess and how they help you maintain mental health.
REACTS: The Social Threats and Rewards to the Brain
The brain responds the same way to social threats as it does to physical threats. This is an overview of the social threats and rewards to the brain.
Trauma & The Brain
Learn how trauma affects our brain’s natural response to a challenge. Additionally, you will learn strategies that allow you to mitigate that response.
Addiction, Anxiety & Depression
Learn how certain behaviors can impact your vulnerability to addiction, anxiety, and depression.
Coping & Mindfulness
Learn the brain science of mindful practice and how you can set yourself up for healthy coping strategies by making mindful choices.
In this final session, we will review the main concepts and address questions and comments that have been raised. This one is all about YOU!
